Seattle Saracens Mens Premier VS UVIC Vikes

March 26, 2017

On a blustery day with rain and sun, Seattle Saracens Premier side overcame a determined UVIC team 45-32.

7 Players scored tries for Seattle Saracens. SamWindsor  continued his effective goal kicking with 5 conversions and one try of his own.

The University of Victoria arrived in Seattle full of confidence and sporting a  full backline driven by #10 GradyBowd who is in the Canada mix for a spot on the national squad.  He didn’t disappoint with an experienced and clever performance that continually found space to set his back line into action.  UVic held a lead for a long period of the match and seemed like they might pick up an away win after a try in the 65th minute.

Seattle Saracens kept pounding away with what possession they could garner and the home side started to pick up steam when US Eagle center,  Shalom Suniula, came on to relieve Russell Armstrong. An instinct for finding the space available with the pass needed, sprung William Rasileka for ago ahead try in the 70th minute.  More clever passing by Suniula was used to put Mike Palefau into space for a try.  Soon thereafter, Sarries #10 Sam Windsor picked up a loose ball at the Seattle 30 and rounded the opposition for the try that sealed the deal.  Windsor's conversion was good and it was 45-32 with little time to play.  The final minutes ticked away and Seattle Saracens had it’s second win after two brutal home losses.  One to CW, on an interception try in the last minute with a 5 point lead on the CW goal line, and UBC which also had an intercept try that was a 14 point turn around.  Not this time though as Seattle Saracens possession was secured by a tough pack, led by #8 and captain, Matt Trouville .

For UVIC, it wasn’t a complete lost day as they won the Div 1 match 43-33.  A free flowing and open match by both sideswas appreciated by the crowd at Magnuson. Both sides played attractive and tough rugby that was a credit to their club.

Thanks to Denny Russell and his two AR’s for a fine match in thePrem’s.  Seattle Saracens players and management appreciated the fan support this season for the home games this season and hope to see supporters follow them to next weeks away match at James Bay.  Seattle can secure a playoff spot with 2 wins in their next 3 matches which are all away.
