A blustery day in Bellingham set off the Seattle Saracens 2017-2018 season with some fantastic rugby. Capilano RFC was hosted by Seattle.
Anticipation and nerves were high leading up to this match. The wet weather showed to be an added challenge for both squads.
Capilano opened the scoring from a talented kicker, slotting a penalty. Seattle struck back with a try from outside center Psalm Wooching. Throughout the match, both squads picked away at each others’ defense with back and forth scoring.
Capilano pulled ahead by 7 with 15 minutes left in the match. The Saracens mounted a relentless attack but Capilano was determined and set a solid defensive wall to hold off Seattle for a 34-27 win. The preceding Division 1 match ended with Capilano squeaking by with a 20-17 win.
After the match, Saracens head coach, Wil Snape-Rogers, saw a lot of positives from his players despite the final result. Snape-Rogers and his coaching staff will be building on this experience and readying the players to take on Burnaby north of the border next week.
The next Saracens matches are all in Burnaby on September 16th. The Division 1 Men and Women’s Premier matches will kick off at 12:45pm, followed by the Men’s Premier match at 2:30pm.
