Under bright skies the visiting Meraloma RFC took on Seattle Saracens on their own ground. Meraloma coming off a narrow win against Nanaimo, was looking to have a stronger result against Seattle.
From the initial kick-off Seattle looked strong with fluid teamwork in phase play from both the forwards and backs. Taking advantage of Meraloma’s errors, Seattle struck first and continued the 1st half with convincing play from Peter Tiberio and scrum half Isaiah Chinen, both scoring 2 tries apiece. The 1st half ended with a solid 43-5 lead.
In the 2nd half, Meraloma was not willing to go down easy and denied Seattle of their scoring ways for much of the final 40 minutes. Dotting down a couple tries of their own they narrowed the score resulting in a 45-15 Seattle win. Fullback Moses Lalasava and 8-man Eric Soto both put on strong performances, each scoring a try of their own.
Saturday’s captain Kellen Gordon was inspired by his team’s performance. Gordon said that he can see his team putting together many more of these solid wins as the season moves forward.
On Oct 14th, Seattle will be looking to put up a win while in Vancouver taking on UBC Old Boys who current sit atop the tables in the BCRU Men’s Premier competition.
Next weekend, Seattle will have a week off from Canadian competition but will be playing a friendly match with fellow partner club ORSU out of Portland. The match will kick off at Magnuson Park at 2:30pm.
